Newport – About

Newport, Rhode IslandĀ is a scenic New England summer resort city located on Aquidneck Island in Narragansett Bay. It is famous for its sailing history and historic mansions.

Newport was founded in 1639 by religious refugees from Massachusetts, and quickly became one of the busiest seaports in colonial America. In the late 1800s, due to the summer climate and proximity to the ocean, Newport developed as an opulent summer resort with stately mansions such as The Breakers, Rosecliff, The Elms, and the Marble House.
