Flags on the green at Fort Adams, Newport RI

Operation Stand Down held their annual “Boots on the Ground for Heroes Memorial” on Memorial Day weekend, and for the first time it was held at Fort Adams State Park, in Newport. The memorial is held in honor of service members who have been killed in the line of duty since September 11th, 2001.

There are nearly seven thousand boots, each representing a service member. They each have a flag and the nametag of the individual soldier. There were twenty-nine Rhode Island service members honored an event held on Friday night.
