Consumers have been asking for years to be able to buy a car completely online, so dealers and their software companies have been working on it for nearly just as long.   Many local dealers now have what’s called “Digital Retailing” tools and they essentially let you do some, or even all of the automotive shopping and buying process online.

Once you decide what brand you’re looking for, you can go online and find a local dealer who has digital retailing.  We have a partial listing below and this list is being updated often.

Once you find a dealer, simply go to their website and click on their inventory.  You can search around for as long as you want, there’s no limit to the number of vehicles you can view or how long you can be there.  Once you find one you like, there’s usually a link to begin the transaction online.

There you can do any or all of the purchase transaction including:

• Qualifying for any special payments or incentives
• Getting a value for a trade in where applicable
• Filling out a credit application in a secure online portal
• Filling out paperwork necessary for registration and titling

You can do the entire transaction online, whether you are buying or leasing, paying for the vehicle outright or financing, and whether you have a trade-in or not.

Should you need assistance with the transaction, most dealers will have staff dedicated to facilitating the transaction and they can be reached by phone, email and in many cases, online chat.

Once you complete the transaction, the last thing to do is set up a date and time to pick up your new car, or if you don’t want to go to the dealership at all, most will drop off the car and paperwork to your front door.
